Microsoft website looks better on Google Chrome than IE6

CS Ling
by CS Ling at 4:15 pm

Surprisingly, some Microsoft sites apparently looks better in other browser than Internet Explorer. Microsoft has dropped support for their 11-year-old Internet Explorer 6, even on their own domain. That's a bold statement IMHO, Bravo Microsoft!

As viewed on Internet Explorer v6.0

1. Missing logo! That's an epic win!

2. The PNG transparency in the search bar is not transparent as IE6 doesn't support PNG transparency. A PNG hack is usually implemented to solve this problem.

3. The dotted line is covered by the icons and became broken dotted lines.

4. The javascript used to display the content for submenu is buggy. On load, the image does not appear which leaves a huge whitespace at the content area. Visually unbalanced to say the least.

10 Things Techsailor Taught Me

Wayne Chia
by Wayne Chia at 6:39 am

10-things

In the spirit of our 5th anniversary on "10-10-10", I decided to throw in one more "Ten" - 10 things that Techsailor has value-added to my life

1. Chinese

The least expected yet the most dramatic self-improvement I made was being able to get my Chinese up to speed to communicate with our colleagues in China. OK, I won't be rattling Li Bai’s poems anytime soon but at least I can write a decent requirement document in Chinese and type at a pretty rapid speed. Of course, Google Translate and Pera-perakun were indispensible.

2. Financial accounting

Prior to Techsailor, my knowledge of financial accounting is probably equivalent to my understanding of Latin – the figures look familiar yet I can’t make heads nor tails out of it. Fast forward 3 years, I can now have a proper conversation with our accountant on depreciation, accruals, journal entries and other terms that were Latin in the previous incarnation. Heck, at least my understanding of “Credit” and “Debit” is no longer confined to the plastic cards that sits in my wallet.

by CS Ling at 4:33 am

What will the world be like without colors? (Pleasantville, anyone?) One thing's for sure, you never have to worry  about wearing mis-matched socks to work again anymore!
Colors plays an important part in human expression. Just like music is to a musician's ears, colors stirs the very soul of an artist. Colors not only beautify the world around us, it also helps us make decisions, sway our thinkings, differentiate between good and bad, helps us stands out, gives us warnings, changes the mood of our surroundings and calm or aggravates our souls.
All colors comes from light and all are equally important in painting the world that we see today. Here is a list of great color generation tools that we have picked out to help you utilize the power of colors and paint the magic into your design masterpieces!

COLOURlovers

It's an exciting love affair with colors! Be adventurous and try out new and unique color combinations and experiment with different color themes at your finger tips. And the best part of it all, be inspired by the thousands of color themes contributed by the active global community of colourlovers out there! Word has it that two of the members met and fell in love on the colorlovers community and got married!

8 Flash Preloaders Worth Waiting For

CS Ling
by CS Ling at 2:49 pm

Flash preloader may well be one of the most crucial element of a flash website. An interesting and user-engaging preloader gets the user's full attention and stick around longer for the site to load. Here are 8 examples of engaging flash preloaders that are worth the wait :)

AgencyNet

Unconventional and contemporary loading style. The usual loading bar stays in one area of the screen but this not only explodes throughout the whole screen, user can play with the moving trail created by the loading numbers. As if that is not outstanding enough, the loading for the inner contents is just as stylish as the former.

One Minute Fly; One Lifetime to Fly

CS Ling
by CS Ling at 6:50 pm

A friend of mine recently posted this video on my Facebook as this fly reminds her a lot of myself and my Life List.

When i first watched the clip, i laughed uncontrollably. This fly only has a very limited lifespan of 1 min and within this one minute, he has to accomplish a list of things before it dies. Before you know it, the 4 minute clip ended. The ups and downs, adventures and mishaps, happiness and sadness you experienced with the fly in the 4 minute clip has a deeper and more profound meaning than it seems on first glance.

You will never know when will be your last day on Earth, so live each day to the fullest. I'm not sure if anyone else feels the same way, that time is not limited or unlimited. It's unmeasurable, you will never really know how much time you have left. Just like no one really knows how huge the Universe is.

An Earth day = average amt of time for Earth to rotate once about its axis = 24-hour day
An Earth year = 48 weeks ( 48 weekends is not a lot if you think about it, isn't it? )

What would you do if you are the 1-min fly?
